Four Corners has a unique combination of sophisticated
CNC equipment and expertise in the programming and production of specialty woodworking components and products.
Four
Corners, LLC, is a subcontract manufacturer of high quality
custom parts. We offer CNC machining, including 3-d surfacing and 5 axis milling,
moulding, edgebanding, and assembly services. We work with solid wood, panel products, plastics and
non-ferrous metals.
David and Maggie Brigham founded Four Corners, LLC, in 1995. At that point, David had spent over 10 years
integrating CNC machines into woodshops. Maggie had been in production management for the better part of a
decade in the apparel industry.
The premise behind starting Four Corners was that in his consulting, David had noticed a number of companies which could
benefit from CNC technology but which were not ready to invest in CNC equipment.
Maggie and David started by purchasing a CMS PF-RR-8 machining center - a workhorse of a machine featuring an 8-position
rotary head including a horizontal head. We quickly realized that we needed to offer more than just
strictly CNC
services; so we acquired a bandsaw, a Powermatic table saw and a flap wheel and
balloon sander. Our first customers were
primarily furniture manufactures from central Massachusetts.
In 1998 we invested in a Fadal Vertical Milling Center. Despite its small work area, with its CNC-controlled rotary fixture it
made a substantial impact on our capabilities. 4 and 5 axis work was now a possibility. It also made us much more
efficient on small
parts that needed milling on multiple faces and/or edges. We were busy milling
guitar necks, square-turned legs, and store fixtures.
We moved the business to our present location in Millerton, NY in December 1998 and went from 3500 sq ft to 18,000 sq ft.
1999 was a very busy year for us. Besides for settling into our new space, we took delivery of our first Ott edgebander in August 1999, our second CMS machining center in September, and, most importantly, our daughter Katie in October.
This second CMS machining center is a PF102-4T with 4 main heads and 4 piggyback heads. This allows the cutting of multiple parts at one time. It was on this machine that we made 9800 pc Victoria’s Secret MDF signage frames, 60,000 melamine shelves for Linens ‘n Things, and 104,000 Baltic birch basket lids.
The next few years brought steady growth both in terms of sales and equipment. In 2002 we purchased a horizontal borer, a sliding table saw and a dust collection system. Over the years, we have acquired most of the equipment that you would find in a traditional shop in order to provide the services that our clients require.
Our third CMS machining center was a used 6-head machine that we originally purchased for spare parts in December 2005. The seller was unable to boot up the computer because the wiring had been seriously messed up by a maintenance guy whose previous electrical experience was limited to changing light bulbs. David decided to “take a look” at what it would take to get it working correctly. Within weeks, David had it working like new and we kept its six head’s busy cutting casket parts for a long time.
In 2008 we purchased a full-sized 5-axis machining center made by Multiax. Its cutting area is 5’-8” (Y) x 12’ (X) x 4’ (Z) and its head rotates in any direction and tilts up to 120 degrees off vertical. Projects on this machine include “Queen Ann on Steroids” legs from massive blocks of Corian, ornately carved exterior brackets duplicated from originals, and sculptural arms for a premier furniture manufacturer.
