About
Four Corners Four
Corners, LLC, is dedicated to providing high quality CNC-machined component
parts to other manufacturers. David
Brigham founded the company in 1995 after several years of working as a
manufacturing consultant to wood products companies in the Northeast.
In doing this work, it became clear that there were many manufacturers
who could benefit from CNC technology, but could not justify the expense of a
top quality piece of equipment. Our
first CMS machining center, a PF...., arrived from Italy in July 1995 and was
installed in a modified 6-car garage. With
just one paid employee, we were off and running parts.
We hired another employee (Tony, who is still with us!) and enclosed
the warehouse area that Autumn just in time for our first big order of store
fixture parts. We were busy
enough at this point for Maggie Brigham to quit her day job in the apparel
industry and join the company full time. Things
progressed and we adapted as we went. We
hired an experienced CAD draftsman to assist David in 1996.
Bob already had a woodworking background and he quickly picked up the
CAM software. Bob is still
working with us - drafting, designing fixtures, creating programs, and
generally keeping us moving. By
the end of 1997 it was clear that we wanted to expand by investing in another
CNC machining center. Space was a
consideration as our shop that once seemed spacious was getting cramped.
We also wanted to get into 5 axis machining in order to offer out
customer’s more options. So, in
March 1998, we installed a Fadal
VMC which is designed for metal working (read heavy-duty) and had it
outfitted with a high-speed spindle for cutting wood.
It has a rotary table to give us both 4 and 5 axis indexing and true 5
axis machining. At this time, we
brought Neil on full-time to run the Fadal.
We’ve been keeping him busy with guitar necks, funky curved parts and
four-sided legs ever since. The
space issue was getting critical and in December 1998 we moved the business
from our farm to a nearby industrial space.
While the new location lacks the charm of our original location, we all
appreciate having 18,000 sqft of usable space.
At the time we moved, we had 6 full-time employees, plus Maggie, David,
and more often than not, the help of Maggie’s dad, Jerry Helck. In
the second half of 1999, we acquired two pieces of equipment to tailor our
services to the manufacture of parts from panel products.
In August, we took delivery of an Ott Edgebander - not new, but in very
good condition. September brought the installation of our 2nd CMS
machining center. This is a
linear head machine with 4 main spindles and 4 piggy-backs - this
configuration permits the cutting of multiple parts simultaneously.
It was also in 1999, that Frank moved from working evenings in the shop to spending his days in the office. He has been able to take over many responsibilities from both Maggie and David. He is the person to speak with about new projects, the schedule, and shipping and receiving issues. We
currently have 7 full time employees. The
equipment that we have invested in permits us to run the business with a small
staff - after all, the idea behind CNC machining centers is that you reduce your
manpower needs by letting the machine do most of the work! We
are proud of the team that we have assembled and of the fine work that they do
every day.
